While in New York, Georgia O’Keeffe developed a close friendship with Anita Pollitzer, from Charleston, South Carolina. In the letters they exchanged to one another, they wrote about artist and photographer Alfred Stieglitz, who helped introduce European modernism to the American mainstream. O’Keeffe drew inspiration from Stieglitz, and the teachers who trained her, but it would not be until her arrival in Columbia, S.C. where her art would take off. Part of the "Georgia O'keeffe: A Woman on Paper" series.
