Universal Design for Learning

Captioned media is an excellent example of Universal Design for Learning, or UDL. Virginia State Department of Education's Dr. Debbie Pfeiffer has written an article in which she discusses the challenges that teachers face today (more than ever) in meeting the varied needs of their students. She talks about the value of captioning and describing media, about the wide variety of accessible media available through the DCMP, and recommends several DCMP titles to you. Her conclusion: "I now take advantage of every opportunity possible to make educators, administrators, and parents in Virginia aware of the DCMP as a valuable resource."

DP Captioning & Multimedia Solutions

Do you know there are 21 companies that provide description services? DCMP provides information about these companies. In this newsletter and others in coming months, we are going to feature articles written by a representative of several of these companies. This series will help readers better understand what description is, how it is created, and the relationship between DCMP and the company.

This month the spotlight is on DP Captioning & Multimedia Solutions and owner Debbie Risk. Read Describing Description, and we think you'll find her explanation of how she creates description to be very interesting. She concludes by saying "I feel privileged to have the opportunity to help make digital media accessible to everyone."
