Read Captions Across America
We invite you to join us in the nation’s largest reading event by taking part in Read Captions Across America (RCAA)! The NEA’s Read Across America was first established to direct the country's attention to the importance of motivating children to read and helping them master basic reading skills. The DCMP's RCAA celebration was launched in 2006 after partnering with the NEA's Read Across America event.
RCAA is the first national reading event to put emphasis on the importance of captioned media (e.g., broadcast, internet, DVD, CD-ROM) as a reading tool for all children, not just those who are deaf or hard of hearing. This effort resulted in a huge success, as thousands of students have participated in this event since its inauguration.

Listening is Learning
Here at the DCMP, we’re always mindful of the need students who are blind or visually impaired have for description, but did you know that listening to description can also expand the effectiveness of educational media for students who are not blind or visually impaired?
Listening is Learning (LIL) is a year-round effort to raise awareness about the need for quality description—primarily description of video-based educational media—and to develop resources and new applications for description in the educational environment. Launched in 2009, LIL is a collaborative effort of the DCMP and the American Council of the Blind.
